Old school Cylon cosplay at the recent Houston Comicpalooza. This guy was wearing what was supposed to be an actual prop costume from the original Battlestar Galactica show. It was low budget and campy, but for those of us in a scifi drought after Star Wars, it was awesome!

Under the fading light and smoky conditions, L51681-18 roars through the small town of Cylon, WI. With 74 cars on the drawbar, the crew makes good time with both units online doing Notch 8, and roaring at full track speed on the Minneapolis Sub. These 2 units are caught breaking through the thick layers of smoke from the Alberta wildfires. The thick smoke and dense fog caused an eerie scene driving through the hilly parts of the Minneapolis Sub, with the high humidity and fog pooling below the road in the deep valleys.

This isn't obviously one of the best photos I've taken, nor is it the sharpest. Though, it's worth a post because of the smoky conditions. A lot of denoise and exposure was used. Thanks, RAW.

Hot on the heels of the 2004 Battlestar Galactica TV series, here is my minifig scale Cylon Raider. Originally suggested to me by Brickvault, it took me about 3 weeks to design. It is the strongest (VERY swooshable) model I have ever created and is very accurate to the shape and proportions of the Mk II Raider.

The ship is 32.5cm long and 20cm wide and is made of 656 pieces (including my signature angled stand). It is also very accurately scaled to the Colonial Viper created by Flying Waffle which you can find on Brickvault's webstore.

Compared to winter, the options to shoot L516 start to open up in spring. Thanks to a quick stop at the autoport, just one car this day, they would be east of town a ways before dark. The sky was showing some potential so I gave chase out to Cylon. It wasn't exactly what I imagined but with the sun on the horizon enough glint happened and I rather like the dark purple cloud deck. Starting to get that unsettled change of seasons feeling. April 10, 2024.

the cylons are watching over us

...or maybe a cylon invasion.

After the rains came, there was a period where the water on the track was lifted by the cars and became a bit misty.

I quickly changed camera settings to some of these nice silhouetted/back-lit shots.

With no loads to grab at Cylon L574 highballs its two car train east at 235th St. At first it appeared this SD60 had been partially washed although closer shots reveal that the cab has had some work done around the engineer's window and has fresh paint applied from the top of the numbers to the botttom edge of the roof.

Leave it to me to build something a full three years after its already hot. Where was I for the whole BrickCon Battlestar Galactica Hanger Bay thingy? Not even on the radar! But now I’m the first ever to build the modern Cylon Raider in UCS scale, so there! You may remember awhile back I built the UCS Classic Cylon Raider so it only makes sense that I show some love for the newer one. This model has an opening canopy to show off the organic brain goo within. Not to spoil anything for ya but the new Raiders are organic life forms. Yep. Oh and I’m pretty sure that one hot blonde chic is a Cylon. Just sayin’.

When I was a kid I wondered who would win in a fight between a Stormtroopers and Cylons. Cylons were pretty slow but Stormtroopers couldn't hit the broad side of a barn. Hmm... Am I the only one who thought about that?

At least that is what my fantasy comes up with...

For the second day in a row, the evening held out the promise of a neat smoked "orange disk" type sunset. For the second time I headed out to Cylon with hopes of an interesting orange disk sunset behind L516, but each day the sun fizzled out into a haze concealed cloud bank a couple minutes before the train arrived. The consolation was this grubby shot of 8811 crossing 235th St. Paired with 8823 for a while now usually the '11 is the west facing unit. May 24, 2023.

One of the few sources of excitement out on the west end of the Minneapolis Sub are the very sporadic autorack extras. Word through the interwebs this day had one such extra on its way with a BNSF leader and FXE trailing. It was a nice fall day so I headed out to see if I could intercept the train. Leapfrogging crossings I carefully made my way east.

When I got to Cylon I discovered the extra stopped. My spirits rose for a moment thinking they must have stopped to change up the power, FXE leader? My hopes were dashed once I got a closer look. The trailing unit was still tied onto the train with the lead unit running around the wye. They would run nose to nose the rest of the trip to the autoport. Ugh.

I shot it a few times anyway since I needed to go back to town. Without ditch lights they set no speed records at 20 mph. There must have been some reason the FXE could not lead at all. Turning the 4986 would allow it run short hood forward back to back with the FXE once the crew was rested to go east. In the wee hours the crew would return east (contrary to the past practice for these extras). Without any cars released yet at the autoport they would go east with a handful of loaded used tie gondolas. October 28, 2022.

A weeks work, and this is the result.

Due to lack of tiles though, the bottom isn't plated.

;_;

If you think it's inaccurate, feel free to tell me and find another picture for me to work off of.

I had one, with only one side shown.

So I took some liberties on things.

It clocks in at around 65-70 studs long.
